Chari Cohen, DrPH, MPH, is a Senior Vice President, and Yasmine Ibrahim, MD, PhD, MBA, is a Program Manager at the Hepatitis B Foundation. The Hepatitis B Foundation received funding from the FDA Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) in 2020 for their project entitled, "Improving clinical trial diversity and participation among people living with chronic hepatitis B: perceptions and challenges".

Hepatitis B is a viral infection that causes inflammation of the liver. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up over half of the people in the United States living with chronic hepatitis B. African Americans have the second-highest rate of chronic hepatitis B. Ensuring people from diverse backgrounds have the ability to participate in clinical trials is key to advancing health equity.

This project will advance understanding of clinical trial perceptions and participation challenges among Asian, Pacific Islander and African American communities impacted by hepatitis B to support development of strategies to improve diverse recruitment and enrollment in hepatitis B clinical trials.
