ASPR Blog

Update: This blog was updated on June 23, 2022 to reflect updated statistics related to the COVID-19 pediatric vaccines roll out.

ASPR’s HHS Coordination Operations and Response Element (H-CORE) is working around-the-clock to deliver vaccine doses nationwide quickly and safely, following the FDA authorizing and the CDC recommending COVID-19 vaccines for all kids 6 months to 5 years of age.

Pediatric COVID-19 vaccine deployment

We began delivering doses to administration sites on Friday, immediately following FDA's granting of emergency-use authorization and continued making deliveries through the holiday weekend. To date, we have delivered more than 4 million doses of vaccine nationwide, with another  million en route.

We have received roughly 4.3 million total orders for vaccines for young children since pre-ordering began a few weeks ago. We will continue to deliver vaccines expeditiously as we fulfill orders and take new ones. We made 10 million doses of vaccine available for ordering initially, with millions more available soon, so supply should not be a barrier to someone getting their young child vaccinated.

Parents and guardians should contact their child’s health care provider to see if they are offering vaccines or visit www.vaccines.gov to find an appointment near them. It will take a few days for vaccine for kids under 5 to populate at www.vaccines.gov as administration sites acknowledge receipt and notify CDC of vaccine availability.

We at ASPR are pleased to play a role in helping make these lifesaving vaccines available to our youngest kids.
