UPDATE
Getting vaccinated prevents severe illness, hospitalizations, and death. Unvaccinated people should get vaccinated and continue masking until they are fully vaccinated. With the Delta variant, this is more urgent than ever. CDC has updated guidance for fully vaccinated people based on new evidence on the Delta variant.
UPDATE
Given new evidence on the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant, CDC has updated the guidance for fully vaccinated people. CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place.

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and help our country cope during the pandemic, CDC has occasionally issued legally binding orders and regulations.
- Face Masks Required in Public Transportation and at Transportation Hubs
People must wear face masks on public transportation and at transportation hubs, including at airports.
- Temporary Protection from Eviction
CDC has issued an order that temporarily protects tenants facing certain financial hardships from being evicted from their homes. The hardships are defined by the order and are specific to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- COVID-19 Test or Proof of Recovery Needed for Arrival in the US
Air passengers arriving in the United States from a foreign country must present a negative COVID-19 test before boarding their flights. The test must not be more than three days old. Alternatively, passengers may present documentation showing that they have recovered from COVID-19.
- Travel Suspended from Countries Experiencing Certain Infectious Disease Outbreaks
CDC’s director may suspend the right of passengers to enter the United States from another country:- If the country passengers are departing from is experiencing an infectious disease outbreak that quarantine may be needed to fight.
- And if suspending entry from the country where the outbreak is occurring is needed to protect public health in the United States.
- Order Excepting Unaccompanied Children from Order Suspending the Right to Introduce Certain Noncitizens into the U.S.pdf icon
During COVID-19, CDC issued an order suspending the right to introduce certain noncitizens attempting to enter the U.S. from Canada or Mexico (regardless of country of origin) at or between ports of entry. CDC subsequently temporarily excepted unaccompanied noncitizen children from the order; the implementation of this order confirms the exception for unaccompanied noncitizen children.
