Most people who didn’t have qualifying health coverage in 2014 must either pay a fee or qualify for a “health coverage exemption.”
You may qualify for an exemption if you experienced certain life events, like changes in income, your household size, or health coverage, or if you’re a member of certain groups. If you qualify, you don’t have to pay the fee.

While the tool provides a lot of useful information, it can’t tell you if you actually qualify for an exemption. It can only show you if one of the exemptions may work for you, and how to apply.
