The FDA Grand Rounds is an educational presentation that is webcast monthly to highlight cutting-edge research underway across the Agency and its impact on protecting and advancing public health. Each session features an FDA scientist presenting on a key public health challenge and how FDA is applying science to its regulatory activities. Dr. Ryan Beams received his Ph.D. in Optics from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY advised by Professor Lukas Novotny in 2013. He is currently a Physicist and leading the research program in Medical Extended Reality within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Science and Engineering laboratories. His research emphasizes optical characterization and the development of evaluation methods for augmented and virtual reality devices used in medicine.
