1. Why did you become a veterinarian?

I was interested in zoonotic infectious diseases (diseases that spread from animals to people) and figured studying the source would be a unique approach.

2. What made you want to work for CVM?

CVM has such a collaborative and collegiate environment. I knew that type of atmosphere coupled with the public service mission would enable me to flourish in my career.

3. What is the best thing about being a veterinarian for CVM?

I have regular interactions with the veterinary community and public. Consequently, I witness how our work directly impacts individuals. It is highly rewarding when our work translates into public protections. It makes my day when I get a nice thank you note or picture of a healthy pet from animal owners.

4. What does the veterinary profession mean to you?

Our profession is so functionally diverse that it provides us a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between human and animal health. Veterinarians are trusted members of their communities, and it’s a privilege to be among them.

5. What is your most memorable moment as a veterinarian?

I went to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Center for Elephant Conservation. They retire their show Asian elephants there, and I interacted with elephant calves. On the same trip, I went behind the scenes of the facilities at the Georgia Aquarium and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and swam with manatees. It was an awesome trip!
