Dr. Kristina Feye earned her B.S. from Texas Woman’s University in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. After working in industry, she earned a M.S. in Biology from Stephen F. Austin State University and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, majoring in Pharmacology, from Iowa State University. Dr. Feye then completed a postdoctoral position at the University of Arkansas followed by another position at Agricultural Research Service - U. S. Department of Agriculture and then returned to work in industry before joining the FDA.
About the Presentation:
New sequencing technologies are very helpful in understanding how pathogens from the food supply spread antibiotic resistance. However, there are some limitations to the use of those technologies. Therefore, we are investigating how to overcome some of those limitations to better understand how to improve our use of sequencing technologies.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the strengths and limitations of different next-generation sequencing platforms and how new knowledge can help all sequencing methods
- Understand the importance of plasmids in public health and across the One Health Spectrum
- Discuss different ways that plasmids can impact the microbiome and why being able to track all of the plasmids in a system is important
