The Food and Drug Administration's mission of protecting and promoting public health is not held to one region.  As such, we have offices and staff in the Washington, D.C. area as well as across the United States.

Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) is the lead office for all agency field activities. ORA inspects regulated products and manufacturers, conducts sample analyses of regulated products and reviews imported products offered for entry into the United States. In pursuit of its mission, ORA also works with its state, local, tribal, territorial and foreign counterparts.

The Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), Office of Regulatory Science (ORS), operates 13 laboratories, located strategically across the United States.

Under ORA’s new program-based management model, there are seven key programs for operations (Biological Products, Bioresearch Monitoring, Human and Animal Food, Medical Devices and Radiological Health, Pharmaceutical Quality, Tobacco and Imports).  Each program has a unique number of program divisions for a total of 28 operational divisions

National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR)

The National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), is the only FDA Center located outside the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The one-million square foot research campus in Jefferson, Arkansas plays a critical role in the missions of FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services to promote and protect public health.
