Carol Cave, Deputy Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs

Carol Cave

Carol Cave is the Deputy Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs (DACRA) in the FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA). In this role, she supports the Associate Commissioner for Regulatory Affairs with overseeing inspections, compliance, enforcement, field laboratory operations, import operations, and strategic planning, among other areas.

Before becoming DACRA, Ms. Cave served as Assistant Commissioner of the ORA Office of Enforcement and Import Operations. Her responsibilities included reviewing prior notice and intelligence data on human and animal food and leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of laws, regulations, and policies related to national and global programs and activities.

Previously, Ms. Cave served as Deputy Director of the Office of Compliance and Field Operations at the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), where she worked with other federal government agencies to identify unique approaches and solutions to identify potentially defective consumer products. Other roles in CPSC included director of field investigations and compliance officer in the Office of Compliance’s Special Investigations Unit. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
