August 11, 2021

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) will host a virtual listening session on the FDA’s oversight of pet food, in order to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to share information and insight on this topic.

FDA regulates the ingredients, manufacturing and labeling of pet food. Pet food includes dog and cat food and treats, as well as food and treats for other companion species such as gerbils, hamsters, snakes, lizards, ornamental fish and birds. When necessary to protect animal or human health, FDA takes appropriate regulatory and enforcement action.

The virtual listening session will take place on Friday, September 24, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. ET. For additional information about the listening session, including instructions for those interested in attending or presenting, please visit: FDA Virtual Listening Session on the Oversight of Pet Food.

People interested in attending this virtual listening session must register no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on September 20, 2021, by completing this registration form: Registration - FDA Virtual Listening Session on the Oversight of Pet Food. Early registration is recommended. Registrants will receive confirmation of registration and an email with the webcast link.

If you are interested in presenting at the virtual listening session, by no later than September 3, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. ET, you must fill out the registration form and check off the box indicating that you’d like to present. Presenters will be contacted by FDA shortly after September 3rd with additional instructions.

In addition to holding the virtual listening session, FDA will open a docket and accept electronic or written comments through October 25, 2021. To electronically submit comments to the docket, visit www.regulations.gov and type FDA-2021-N-0859 in the search box.
