Schell returns to FDA to lead Surveillance and Compliance for CVM

February 27, 2019

The FDA announced today that Timothy Schell, Ph.D., has returned to the agency’s Center for Veterinary Medicine to lead its Office of Surveillance and Compliance. Dr. Schell rejoined the agency on February 17, 2019.

Dr. Schell previously served with CVM for fourteen years, joining the center in 2000 as a reviewer of new animal drugs for swine and poultry. Over the course of his tenure, he held increasingly more challenging and higher profile positions throughout the center that solidified his expertise in animal food and drugs, as well as applied research. He held the position of deputy director of the Division of Animal Feeds from 2009-2014, and also served in leadership roles as acting director and acting deputy for more than a year at CVM’s Office of Research.

In 2014, Dr. Schell joined Elanco Animal Health to lead regulatory affairs strategies in several different areas, expanding the firm’s global initiatives in animal drugs and feed additives.

Dr. Schell earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. in animal nutrition at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia. He completed his undergraduate degree in animal and dairy sciences at Auburn University.
