Biography

Dr. Heather Tate is an epidemiologist in the Division of Animal and Food Microbiology.  She received her PhD in Biomedical Science from New York University in 2004 and her MS degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2005.  She initially joined FDA in 2008 as a Commissioner’s Fellow.  Dr. Tate’s primary responsibilities include epidemiologic research on antimicrobial resistance, surveillance design, and analysis, interpretation, and visualization of surveillance data collected for the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS).

Research

• Using molecular microbiologic information to accurately determine trends in resistance
• Identifying environmental and genetic risk factors and antimicrobial use practices that influence the risk of resistance
• Describing the spatial and temporal patterns of resistance within the OneHealth framework using epidemiologic models
