Information on Tobacco Warning Letters

Warning Letters issued to tobacco retailers for violations observed during a compliance check inspection are available in the Compliance Check Inspections of Tobacco Product Retailers database.

Compliance check inspections of tobacco retailers occur periodically, and are conducted to determine a retail establishment’s compliance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, as amended by the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act) and its regulations.

The Tobacco Retailer Warning Letters overview page provides a brief description of what retailers should do if they have received a warning letter.

Warning Letters issued to online retailers and to manufacturers for violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and its applicable regulations, are available in the FDA's Electronic Reading Room.

More information on FDA’s tobacco laws and regulations, is available on our website.
