CTP's Scientific Conference Grant Program Priorities 

FDA recognizes the value of supporting high quality, small scientific conferences. A small scientific conference is defined as a symposium, seminar, workshop, or any formal meeting, whether conducted face-to-face or virtually to exchange information and explore a defined subject, issue, or area of concern impacting the public's health within the scope of the FDA's mission.

Current Funding Opportunities

  1. Public Health Communication Messaging about the Continuum of Risk for Tobacco Products (U01 – RFA-OD-23-021
     
    The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to invite Research Project Cooperative Agreement (U01) applications to support health communication research to better understand the impact that messaging about the continuum of risk for tobacco products may have on various segments of the population. Research projects must address the research priorities related to regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP).  
    Application due dates: December 6, 2023 by 5:00 PM local time of application organization.
     

  2. Mentored Research Scientist Career Development Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research (K01 - RFA-OD-22-023 or RFA-OD-22-024
     
    The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to provide support and protected time for an intensive, supervised career development experience in biomedical, behavioral, and social science research that will inform the development and evaluation of regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing and that will lead to research independence. Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). 
    Application due dates: February 21, 2023, November 14, 2023, July 12, 2024, March 12, 2025 by 5:00 PM local time of application organization. 
     

  3. Pathway to Independence Award in Tobacco Regulatory Research  (K99/R00 - RFA-OD-22-025 or RFA-OD-22-026
     

    The purpose of this FOA is to increase and maintain a strong cohort of new and talented independent investigators conducting research that will inform the development and evaluation of regulations on tobacco product manufacturing, distribution, and marketing. This program is designed to facilitate a timely transition of outstanding postdoctoral researchers with a research and/or clinical doctorate degree from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions. This program will provide independent NIH research support during this transition in order to help awardees launch competitive, independent research careers. Research projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). 
    Application due dates: February 21, 2023, November 14, 2023, July 12, 2024, March 12, 2025 by 5:00 PM local time of application organization.
     

  4. FY23 FDA Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for Advanced Research and Development of Regulatory Science (FDABAA-23-00123)

    FDA solicits and funds extramural research through an agency-wide Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for advanced research and development proposals to support regulatory science and innovation. CTP participates in the BAA solicitation, and tobacco priority topics are included in sections I (A.3, C.12, D.9, F.10 & G.2) and III (D.3). More on these topics and application details can be found in the contract solicitation. 
    Stage One Submittal Packages due date: January 23, 2023.
     

  5. Notice of Information for RFA-OD-21-004, "Maximizing the Scientific Value of Existing Biospecimen Collections (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)" (NOT-OD-23-079) 
     

    The purpose of this Notice is to alert applicants to the final application date for RFA-OD-21-004, “Maximizing the Scientific Value of Existing Biospecimen Collections (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)." The last application date for this RFA is March 8, 2023. There are no plans at this time to reissue this RFA.  
     

  6. Notice of Information for RFA-OD-21-003, "Secondary Analyses of Existing Datasets of Tobacco Use and Health (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)" (NOT-OD-23-078)
     

    The purpose of this Notice is to alert applicants to the final application date for RFA-OD-21-003, “Secondary Analyses of Existing Datasets of Tobacco Use and Health (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)." The last application date for this RFA is March 8, 2023. There are no plans at this time to reissue this RFA.  
     

  7. Tobacco Regulatory Science (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) (RFA-OD-23-017)

    The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to invite R01 applications to support biomedical and behavioral research that will provide scientific data to inform regulation of tobacco products to protect public health. Research Projects must address the research priorities related to the regulatory authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). The awards under this NOFO will be administered by NIH using funds that have been made available through FDA CTP and the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (P.L. 111-31). Research results from this NOFO are expected to generate findings and data that are directly relevant in informing the FDA's regulation of the manufacture, distribution, and marketing of tobacco products to protect public health. 
    Application due date: October 6, 2023, May 6, 2024, October 4, 2024, and May 2, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. local time of applicant organization

     

  8. FDA Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (R13)

    FDA recognizes the value of supporting high quality, small scientific conferences. A small scientific conference is defined as a symposium, seminar, workshop, or any formal meeting, whether conducted face-to-face or virtually to exchange information and explore a defined subject, issue, or area of concern that impact the public's health within the scope of the FDA's mission.
    Application due dates: April 12, 2021; October 12, 2021; April 12, 2022; and October 11, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. EST.

In addition to supporting research through NIH's programs, CTP solicits proposals for research contracts administered by FDA. Those opportunities are published through the Federal Business Opportunities website and also posted on the CTP website.
