Jill Atencio, JD
Leadership Role

Jill Atencio serves as the acting director of the Office of Compliance and Enforcement at FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP). As acting director of the Office of Compliance and Enforcement, Ms. Atencio is responsible for a wide range of compliance and enforcement efforts required for tobacco product regulation, including compliance education, surveillance, inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance of the law by regulated industry.

Ms. Atencio has contributed to FDA’s public health mission for 12 years. She joined OCE in 2012 to help implement the new Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

Prior to joining CTP, Jill worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Natural Resources Conservation Service. She also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia in the Criminal Division and as a Legislative Assistant on Capitol Hill.

Ms. Atencio received her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law and her undergraduate degree from American University.
