BAM Media M202: R&F® Enterobacter sakazakii (Cronobacter) Chromogenic Plating Medium

Media Index for BAM

November 2023

This medium is available commercially from R&F Products, Downers Grove, IL. (Cat. No. M-0700). Prepare the medium according to the instructions provided on the packaging label. After the plates have been poured and dried upside down in the dark at room temperature for up to 48 h, they can be placed in petri plate sleeves (cutting a 0.5" to 1" hole in the sleeves to allow condensation to escape) and stored upside down at 2-8 ºC in the dark for up to 60 days.

This proprietary medium uses X-α-D-glucopyranoside to detect α-glucosidase and uses X–β-D-cellobiopyranoside to detect β-cellobiosidase. Phenol red produces the background color for the agar and is also the pH indicator. Three sugars which Cronobacter doesn’t ferment are included.
