Pharmacologist

Description of Duties:

As a Pharmacologist you will perform the following duties:

  • Reviews and evaluates the results of preclinical pharmacological studies submitted in support of INDs, NDAs, amendments, supplements, and reports to new drug applications to assess the safety of the drug based on experiments conducted by the applicant.
  • Meets with industry or drug sponsor representatives to exchange information and to provide guidance regarding those aspects of the applications, notice, amendment, supplement or report which fall within area of review.
  • Prepares a comprehensive summary of the data reviewed and submits substantive recommendations and conclusions for approval by the Supervisor.
  • Studies and maintains familiarity with the pharmacological, biochemical, and toxicological scientific literature in order to keep abreast of current trends, especially in the areas of therapeutics involved within their division.
  • Attends meetings, conferences and symposia of organizations to remain continuant of developments, to exchange ideas with other scientists engaged in related work, and develops background data pertinent to the program.
 
Qualifications:


GS-0405-11: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service, to include  performing research to support regulatory decisions and actions on cosmetic-related issues; Identify techniques or modify existing methods to improve the scientific quality and validity of research and Review and evaluate the results of non-clinical pharmacological and toxicological studies.

OR
Have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
 
GS-405-12: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service, to include performing research and proposing solutions to support regulatory decisions and actions on cosmetic-related issues; Identify techniques or modify existing methods to improve the scientific quality and validity of research;  review non-clinical pharmacological and toxicological data including evaluation of the sufficiency and adequacy of studies; and assess the safety of the drug based on toxicity experiments.
 
In order to qualify for Pharmacology, GS-0405-13 you must meet the following: Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 In the Federal service, the Federal service, to include performing research and proposing solutions to support regulatory decisions and actions on cosmetic-related issues; Identify techniques or modify existing methods to improve the scientific quality and validity of research;  preparing written and oral briefings on the status of projects and/or programs, Review and evaluate the results of non-clinical pharmacological and toxicological studies; and assess the safety of the drug based on toxicity experiments.
 
If you are claiming education as any part of your qualifications for this position, you must submit an official transcript, unofficial transcript, or a list including courses, grades earned, completion dates, and quarter and semester hours earned. If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.

Federal General Schedule (GS) grade levels at which pharmacologists positions are commonly filled are:
  • GS-11/12/13 at the headquarters and field levels
 
 
Geographical Locations:
 
Pharmacologists are located at HQ (suburban Washington, D.C.) and in facilities throughout the U.S.
