Office of Equal Employment Opportunity


Mission

The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) is responsible for the set of laws and policies that mandate all individuals' rights to equal opportunity irrespective of race, religion, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability or genetic information. Additionally, OEEO's diversity function is the proactive response to the changing profile of the workforce it serves. The mission of OEEO is to promote an inclusive work environment that ensures: equal employment opportunity and fosters a professional culture that values diversity and empowers individuals so they can participate and contribute to their fullest potential.

Vision

The hallmark of every great organization is its capacity to attract and retain a diverse workforce. The Food and Drug Administration is committed to doing all it can to ensure that the agency’s workforce environment is free from discrimination and dedicated to the principles of equity and diversity for all its employees.

Major functions and descriptions

Workforce Analysis and Reporting – analyze Agency data to determine under representation and/or underutilization of diverse groups in the workforce. It also includes identifying employment patterns, and uncovering problems/barriers that impede equal employment opportunities.

Diversity Concepts and Principles - develop and maintain a Diversity Management Program that instills the concepts and principles of Diversity Management into the working lives of every member of FDA's diverse workforce.

EEO Training - provide comprehensive EEO and Diversity training to the FDA’s managers and employees. Our training programs are designed to help managers and employees understand and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace.

Outreach & Recruitment – the diversity outreach and retention plan provides guidance information to assist managers in their efforts to recruit and retain a diverse workforce. Included in the plan is information on national professional association meetings/conferences, workforce profiles for agency personnel, and a listing of minority serving institutions of higher learning

Reasonable Accommodations & Accessibility – provides reasonable accommodation or adjustment in the work environment or in the way that things are customarily done that would enable a qualified individual with a disability to enjoy equal employment opportunities.

Sign Language Interpreting/Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) - In accordance with Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, all Federal agencies are under an affirmative duty to ensure that equal access in employment is provided for individuals with disabilities. Equal access in employment applies to all Agency sponsored events, including meetings, functions, office parties, etc. No individuals with a disability will be excluded, denied services, segregated, or otherwise treated differently than other individuals because of the absence of Auxiliary aids and services.
