Maternal Health Matters
National Women’s Health Week (NWHW), which is observed May 8-14, 2022 this year, was created to encourage all women to make healthy choices for themselves. It is fitting that NWHW begins on Mother’s Day, as the FDA Office of Women’s Health’s (OWH) focus for the week this year is maternal health. Our theme for NWHW 2022 is KNOWHmore to Optimize Your Maternal Health.
Maternal health refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. OWH is sharing the following FDA and federal resources to help ensure each stage is a positive experience, and women and their babies are able to reach their full potential for health and well-being.
Resources Before Pregnancy
Thinking of becoming pregnant? Preconception care is important to give you and your baby a healthy start. Make a plan and discuss and keep up with your annual health exams with your healthcare provider.

Pregnancy can be an exciting but also challenging time for you and your family. Regular prenatal care throughout your pregnancy journey can help catch any concerns, reduce the risk of complications, and help protect the health of you and your baby.
