Tobacco Education Resources for Parents and Teachers

As a parent, educator, or someone who works with youth, you can play an active role in fighting tobacco use among youth. Our data shows that there has been an alarming increase in e-cigarette use and kids are not fully understanding the consequences. Use these resources to learn more and to start an honest conversation with your children or student about the dangers of youth tobacco use.


Video Resources for Parents

FDA and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) collaborated to develop a video series featuring pediatricians addressing questions about nicotine addiction and cessation resources available for youth.


Resources for Educators

FDA and Scholastic have collaborated to create cross-curricular resources for students including lesson plans, activity sheets, and videos. These resources are available on the Scholastic website in English and Spanish.

CTP’s Virtual Exhibit Booth offers a variety of resources and materials to educators.

 

The FDA Tobacco Education Resource Library, run by the FDA Center for Tobacco Products, provides free print materials and web content aimed at communicating the dangers of tobacco use. In the FDA Tobacco Education Resource Library, you can order and download print materials, and syndicate website content.

 

E-cigarettes, including rechargeable batteries and e-liquid cartridges, can pose a threat to human health and to the environment if they are not disposed of properly. Learn some tips on how to safely dispose of e-cigarettes.


Resources for Parents

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) created Smokefree.gov to help you or someone you care about quit smoking.

 

NIDA addresses the most fundamental and essential questions about drug abuse — from understanding how drugs work in the brain and body, to developing and testing new approaches to treatment and prevention.

 

FDA aims to provide accurate, up-to-date information on the dangers of youth tobacco use. Our feature articles cover a variety of topics to educate parents and children on addiction, health effects, tobacco regulation, and the science and research behind it all.

 

FDA's Youth Tobacco Prevention Plan—a key component of the agency's Comprehensive Plan for Tobacco and Nicotine Regulation—is a series of actions to stop youth use of tobacco products, especially e-cigarettes,

 

NYTS was designed to provide national data on long-term, intermediate, and short-term indicators key to the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive tobacco prevention and control programs.
