Leticia Hardy, MD

Abstract: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is defined as excessive fat deposition in the liver after metabolic, infectious, genetic, dietary, alcohol consumption and medications have been ruled out as a possible cause; essentially, it is a diagnosis of exclusion. Healthcare providers are inconsistently diagnosing and managing Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in children. This is most likely due to the lack of recommendations regarding screening in this age group and the limited options for treatment. This presentation will give an overview of this frequently missed comorbidity of childhood obesity, discuss recent guidelines and demonstrate how these guidelines can be put into practice
