We have a hybrid workplace model for the CDRH workforce, which incorporates a range of telework, remote, and on-site work options in order to meet our public health mission. Our Careers Across the Country program is one example of this.
We offer professional development programs that may offer rotational opportunities where employees can explore CDRH roles and build valuable work experiences in these roles to support your career progression.
In addition to providing a full complement of family-friendly Federal benefits, CDRH maintains a variety of programs and services that help balance the demands of your personal and professional life.
CDRH focuses on maintaining a highly engaged workforce, promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and developing its staff to meet the evolving needs of the organization. CDRH’s Engage@CDRH is a full-scale, comprehensive program designed to address four key areas: employee voice, inclusion, professional development, and wellness. The Voice Program provides opportunities for CDRH employees to use their voices to affect change and facilitate a culture of trust, inclusion, and mutual respect. The Inclusion Program is focused on increasing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by recruiting and retaining a diverse talent pool, offering personal growth and team-building opportunities, and supporting local-level initiatives. The Wellness Program focuses on promoting physical and mental health among employees, while the Professional Development Program provides employees with opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge.
Employee Voice initiatives provide opportunities for CDRH employees to use their voices to affect change and facilitate a culture of trust, inclusion and mutual respect. One way this is achieved is through the CDRH-employee led Engage Council delivering employee engagement activities focused on the CDRH Guiding Principles (Connect, Communicate, Collaborate and Change) and serving as champions for the Center’s employee engagement programs and initiatives.
CDRH is strengthened by the diversity of our individuals. At CDRH we appreciate and celebrate our staff’s lived experiences, knowledge, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities, and talent. We believe that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) drive the engagement of our Center community and enhances our ability to protect and promote public health. CDRH’s 2022-2025 DEI&B Strategic Road Map represents our dedication to fostering a mission-capable and resilient workforce. It is the cornerstone of our efforts to recruit, hire and retain a workforce that reflects America's diversity and create an inclusive environment in which staff feel they belong and are empowered to thrive. We do this in various ways via our CDRH Inclusion Council, FDA Affinity Groups (AGs) and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and our Special Emphasis Programs (SEPs). CDRH established a DEI&B Program to cultivate a Center that is truly inclusive promotes meaningful conversations built on mutual respect, and free of racism, biases, and disparities in the treatment of our colleagues. Employees of all races, religions, genders, gender expressions, sexual orientations, ages, physical capabilities, and beliefs are valued and able to bring their authentic selves to work.
To accomplish our mission, CDRH started by evaluating the workplace. We conducted a climate assessment with the goal of identifying development opportunities and metrics to promote and sustain DEI&B. We used the results of that climate assessment to inform the actions we’ve taken and will continue to enhance the CDRH employee experience.
The CDRH Workplace Wellness Program is intentionally curated to meet the unique, multifaceted wellness needs of the CDRH workforce. The Wellness Center utilizes a holistic framework with tailored individual, interpersonal and community-level interventions on a wide range of wellness topic areas. These include supporting employee mental wellness with targeted mental health awareness building, facilitating meaningful dialogues through center-wide seminars, coffee chats and 1:1 consults, providing brain breaks through condensed scheduling initiatives, providing experiential opportunities, and providing on-demand resources related to mental wellness, lifestyle management and work-life integration. The Wellness Center offers a proactive approach to enhance an already-resilient workforce to reduce feelings of isolation and burnout and promote workplace connections.
At CDRH, we believe in supporting our employees’ professional development. We offer excellent training and development opportunities, career growth, and exposure to cutting-edge research and best-in-the-world regulatory science.
