Q. When I started the application, why did the installer appear and then disappear? What does this error message mean: "Connection failed: the network adapter could not establish the connection..."?
A. This might be due to your organization's firewall. Many firewalls are set up to only allow traffic to destination port 80 on remote hosts (Web traffic). However, the EADB server needs to be contacted on port 1610. Thus, you need to contact your system administrator about this particular port number (port 1610) that may need to be opened as an allowed destination port for outgoing connections on your organization's firewall.
The following statement has been prepared for your convenience to communicate with your system administrator:
"The EADB server edkb.fda.gov is listening on port 1610 for connections from the EADB client software. An organization whose hosts are to run the EADB client software needs to allow outgoing connections from any port (source port is randomly chosen on the client as is usual with Internet communications), to the fixed destination port of 1610 on edkb.fda.gov."
Q. Why does the application's digital signature give this error: "Do your want to run the application?"
A. This error is caused by the expiration of the certificate. Check the presented option "Always trust content from this publisher," and click the "Run" button to bypass this warning. EADB does not necessarily need the certificate for successful operation.
Q. I have connected to the application once, so why is it not always available?
A. FDA has routine and unplanned maintenance for its IT infrastructure. Maintenance is typically NOT scheduled during normal business hours in the U.S. Central and Eastern time zones, so this is the best time to access the application from the FDA web portal. If you experience an outage outside of normal business hours, it is likely due to maintenance operations.
Q. How do you open the Java console to allow for the diagnosis of any EADB problems?
A. Follow the steps below.
- Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel" from the list.
- Click the "Java" icon to open the Java Control Panel.
- Click the "Advanced" tab and then click "Java console."
- Click on the "Show console" radio button and then click "OK."
- Restart EADB. The Java console will be open every time you start EADB. Keep it open at all times.
If you encounter a problem, please check the Java console, copy the error messages, and e-mail them to NCTRBioinformaticsSupport@fda.hhs.gov along with a brief description of the problem you experienced. Our technical support team will be more than happy to assist you.
