Jose Galvez, M.D., serves as Acting Director of CDER’s Office of Strategic Programs (OSP). OSP plays a lead role in many of the center’s strategic initiatives and modernization efforts, including development of benefit-risk and other decision support tools, data standardization, lean process management, program analysis, informatics, capacity planning, and major user fee negotiations. OSP leads implementation of CDER’s business informatics governance function in support of business modernization objectives.
Dr. Galvez joined CDER in 2019 as the OSP Deputy Director. He began his federal career in 2011 as the Program Director of Clinical and Translational Informatics at the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). At CBIIT, he led NCI’s clinical trials infrastructure teams, including the Clinical Trials Reporting Program, the NCI Thesaurus team, and NCI’s Clinical Trial Data Management team. In 2016, Dr. Galvez joined the NIH Clinical Center as Chief of the Biomedical Translational Research Informatics program, where he led efforts to modernize the clinical centers research data infrastructure.
Dr. Galvez received his medical degree and completed his residency in Pathology and an Informatics Fellowship at the University of California Davis. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of California Davis in 1997.
