The duties of a Health Communications Specialist at CDER differ by office. Opportunities may include:

  • Developing, implementing, and managing national communication programs, projects, or initiatives for various audiences.
  • Providing guidance and expertise for developing, testing, and disseminating science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages via written, electronic, and audiovisual formats.
  • Conducting and managing audience research and program evaluation activities for health communication. Research may include formative, process, and impact evaluation and qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Contributing to the management and oversight of state, regional, or national public health communication projects by coordinating public health research.
  • Assisting senior staff and management officials in developing position and policy statements and incorporating health communication into Agency or Center goals and activities.
  • Collaborating with other communicators and communications staff on cross-cutting issues to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health officials, partners, and community representatives.
