1. Why did you become a veterinarian?

I believe veterinarians have this amazing potential to become experts across disciplines and to understand science from a holistic perspective. During my early academic career, I studied environmental science and became fascinated with how our environment affects people, plants, and animals. While traveling and studying abroad in Brazil, I had the opportunity to work at such a crossroads: a wildlife and environmental non-profit organization headed by none other than a veterinarian. Her job was the culmination of all the things I was passionate about: environmental education, medicine, public health, conservation research, policy, and leadership. It was this experience that made me realize how much veterinarians can achieve and their potential to provide a greater public service.

2. What made you want to work for CVM?

Since veterinary school, I was constantly exploring roles for veterinarians outside of the clinical setting. During my final year in veterinary school, I was fortunate to participate in a clerkship program here at FDA CVM. During my clerkship, I learned about CVM’s mission, met talented individuals with diverse backgrounds, and witnessed the center’s positive work culture.

3. What is the best thing about being a veterinarian for CVM?

(Not having to discuss money with clients.) More seriously, there is never a dull moment at CVM and every day is filled with new challenges!

4. What does the veterinary profession mean to you?

Having recently graduated from veterinary school, I am still developing the answer to this question. My current answer is that the profession is versatile and constantly evolving.

5. What is your most memorable moment as a veterinarian?

So far, my most memorable moment as a veterinarian has been the day I was offered a full-time job here at CVM!
