Update on Australian Regulatory Agencies

As of July 2022, the “Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE)” has been renamed to the “Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry”.  This change was a result of Machinery of Government change in which responsibility for environment and water matters was transferred to the newly formed Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry remains the Australian Government competent authority responsible for inspection and certification of Australian food and agricultural exports. With respect to the Confidentiality Commitment signed in 2020, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry confirms it is bound by the commitments made by DAWE to protect FDA-provided non-public information in the 2020 Confidentiality Commitment and will continue to protect any non-public information previously shared.

As of 2020, the Australia Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) has assumed the responsibilities of the Department of State of which Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) was a division. The 2020 Statement of Authority and Confidentiality Commitments between FDA and DAWE replaces the 2009 Confidentiality Commitment Statement of Legal Authority and Commitment between FDA and AQIS. DAWE will continue to provide the same protections for any non-public information provided by the FDA under the 2009 Confidentiality Commitment Statement of Legal Authority and Commitment with AQIS.
