NACMCF To Hold Public Meeting on Cyclospora Report and Cronobacter work

Constituent Update

August 9, 2023

The National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) will hold a virtual public meeting on August 30, 2023, to discuss and vote to adopt a report on Cyclospora cayetanensis in Produce. During the meeting the Committee will also provide an update on the Cronobacter spp. in Powdered Infant Formula subcommittee work. Work in each of these areas was advanced to NACMCF by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The Cyclospora report reflects work completed by a NACMCF subcommittee since 2021 to better understand Cyclospora including its prevalence, transmission, testing and prevention measures. Information from the NACMCF report may assist FDA in implementing effective measures to prevent the contamination of produce with the oocysts of this parasite. A full list of questions that the subcommittee has been working to address us available at the NACMCF webpage. The report will be available on the NACMCF webpage and will be open for comment until August 25, 2023.

NACMCF is an advisory committee, established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), that provides impartial, scientific advice, and/or peer reviews to Federal food safety agencies for use in the development of an integrated national food safety systems approach that assures the safety of domestic, imported, and exported foods.
