Spokane, Wash. – April 1-7, 2024, Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) celebrates National Public Health Week, a week where local health jurisdictions across the country recognize the connections created within the community through public health. By working together, a community can strengthen and support the very foundation of their health and well-being.

This year, SRHD will highlight the national focus on how we all contribute to public health with the theme, “For the Public Health of It,” by sharing personal six-word stories from staff across the agency. These six-word stories will encapsulate their unique perspective and understanding of the work they do and encourage the community to consider how the many programs and services at SRHD contribute to the health and well-being of others. These messages will be shared across SRHD’s social media platforms throughout the week. (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube).

On Wednesday, April 3, at 10 a.m., SRHD’s weekly Facebook Live will feature Health Officer Dr. Francisco Velázquez speaking about National Public Health Week along with a few staff members who will share more about their six-word stories and the meaning behind them.

“There are many ways to describe the impact of public health, and the six-word stories shared by staff members serve as a personal reflection of why they continue to show up day in and day out to keep our community safe and healthy. Sharing them is a homage to our team's passion and dedication for better health,” said Velázquez.

In addition, Spokane community partners are participating with banners and blue lights to light up downtown Spokane all week. The SRHD building will also be lit up blue.
