HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Services

HIV/STI Prevention

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a way people can reduce their risk of acquiring HIV.

Overview

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective way for individuals who are at risk of HIV exposure to reduce their risk of getting HIV. Studies indicate that when taken consistently, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV through sex by about 99 percent.

Spokane Regional Health District’s (SRHD) PrEP coordinator works with clients to arrange access to PrEP-related care and prescriptions while also providing guidance throughout the provider referral and insurance enrollment process. See the contact box for ways to schedule an appointment.

SRHD offers free PrEP coordination for individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Men who have sex with men
  • Sex partners of HIV-positive individuals
  • Others at highest risk of HIV infection
