Commissioner's Fellowship Program

Students participating in the Commissioner's Fellowship Program

The FDA Commissioner’s Fellowship Program (CFP) was coordinated by FDA from 2008-2020. The program was established to meet emerging scientific workforce challenges the Agency faced as outlined in the 2007 Subcommittee on Science and Technology report to the Science Board.  Please refer to the CFP Outcomes Evaluation Report for detailed information on the program and its participants achievements throughout the program’s existence.

The program was designed to achieve three goals:

  • Attract top-tier scientists to FDA to address regulatory science issues through mentored projects of high priority to the Agency
  • Provide regulatory science training
  • Serve as a potential recruiting tool.

The CFP onboarded an annual cohort of fellows consisting of outstanding healthcare professionals, scientists, and engineers who received regulatory science training and conducted cutting-edge research on targeted scientific, policy, or regulatory issues under the mentorship of FDA senior scientists.  The CFP is no longer in operation and is not accepting applications for new fellows.
